  Tutorial Programs
American Indian students 4th - 12th grade receive academic assistance and study skills reinforcement in the Indian Education Center's tutorial programs. At school and community-based sites, students receive individual and small group instruction. Culturally-geared curriculum, especially literature, is integrated into the lessons. IEC tutors are mindful of students' individual and cultural learning styles.

Cultural Arts

  Cultural Arts Program
Students learn to make an art piece through demonstration and practice. American Indian artists explain the tradition of the work to be learned. Students learn to create pieces from many different tribal nations, including items which can be used in the creation of traditional dance outfits.

Youth Advocacy
  Youth Advocacy
IEC staff serve as a vital link between American Indian families and the school system. Conferences between parents, teachers and other school site staff are coordinated. IEC staff advocate for youth in the juvenile court system, in social service agencies, and make referrals to enrichment programs. Staff provide peer support at school and community sites and facilitate American Indian student clubs for junior and senior high school students.

Academic Advising

  Academic Advising
On the secondary level, students' transcripts are monitored to insure that they are on track for graduation and college; students and their families are advised of requirements or to make program changes. IEC sponsors financial aid workshops and college motivation days for high school students as well as educational and motivational experiences, such as conferences.

Field Trips & Family Nights

  Field Trips and Family Nights
Youth can experience a variety of cultural field trips and presentations. Students can engage in a variety of art forms-theater, poetry readings and exhibits. Family Educational Events enable working families to share hands-on learning with other American Indian families in the community.
